Have you ever seen these crackers? More importantly, do you know what they look like outside of the box? They’re different-looking, very tasty, and according to the package, they’re even “elegant.” I’ve been meaning to write about these crackers for awhile, partly becaues I think a good cracker — like, really good, deserving of a prime spot next to some cheese — is hard to come.
Lee Smith - Draft ManagerLee spent his youth as the front man for an Air Supply cover band. After his 956th performance of ‘All Out of Love’, he drowned his sorrows in a New Belgium La Folie and quickly forgot the charms of Australian soft rock and found a new muse: craft beer. He quickly found new employment: shampoo commercials – which allowed him to travel the country discovering new breweries from Portland, ME toPortland, OR. It also earned him his nickname: Pantene Pro-Lee.
Lee has been part of our Krog Market team but currently manages our expansive keg inventory (for our guests in-home keg needs and Growlertown) at the original Midtown store. He loves to help customers choose beers, set up kegerators, and, well, just assist in any way possible. He enjoys spelunking, urban foraging, and the musical stylings of Milli Vanilli. Kimmie Curtis-Sherman - Cork DorkKimberly’s journey in wine began in Florida – where the sunshine is plentiful but the good drivers are not. After wasting copious amounts of her fathers money on two art degrees Kimberly was forced to find a “real job” (quoting her father).
Kimberly was able to turn her college hobby of drinking into a viable source of income by BS-ing her way into a management and wine buyer position for a small fine wine boutique. Her fake it till you make it mantra would help Kimberly progress into a multi location buyer for a family owned wine retailer along the Gulf Coast. Her professional growth could not out weigh her angst for Florida drivers so she chose to relocate to Atlanta (her brother’s sofa). Here in Atlanta she would join the dark side of wine and become a sales representative – selling wine within the Atlanta metro area including both Hop City locations. Four years after relocating and three years in sales Kimberly would find herself married, purchasing a home in the burbs and living the life of a kept woman.
With suburban life (aka her husband) driving her mad she would throw herself at the feet of Hop City owner Kraig Torres in the hopes he would remember her and take mercy on her. She wouldn’t stop hanging around the store and we needed someone to sweep the floors. Justin Camp - Baron of BrewsJustin grew up an orphan in Saskatoon, north of the border. His first love, like many Canadians, was hockey. He was a promising member of the national junior team when he was injured in a fight with three members of the Charlestown Chiefs in an exhibition game.
That brawl with the Hanson brothers, allegedly over the merits of Elsinore Brewing, left him missing a tooth and cut short his hockey career. Penniless, Justin moved south to Atlanta, GA, where is fighting skills landed him a job in security at Phillips Arena. Trading hockey for basketball, Justin fell in love with hoops and remains an avid Hawks fan. Luckily, as he relocated, Justin also discovered beer other than Moosehead and Molsen. He immersed himself in the Atlanta beer culture becoming intimately familiar with the brewers and tap rooms from Red Hare to Southbound.
In 2013, he joined the Hop City Midtown team part-time and quickly made an impression with his hard work and well-groomed hair. He rose through the ranks to full-time, transferred stores, and now proudly wears the mantle of General Manager at our Krog Street Market location.
When you see Justin, please wish him a hearty G’Day, ehjust don’t offer him a cruller, he is allergic to donuts. Angela Richter - Socialite SommelierAngela Richter manages everything media and events for Hop City Birmingham. She originates from Florida, where she managed a boutique wine bar in Sarasota before she fell in love with craft beer, and worked for World of Beer for 5 years before joining the Hop City team in 2013.
Angela has tried over 3,000 different beers and countless wines, has her first level Cicerone certification, and loves recommending new beer and wine for you to try. She also specializes in gluten-free options for customers since her own Celiac Disease diagnosis in 2016.
